Process

Method And Quality Assurance

Every step documented, every assumption stated.

  1. DEFINE.
Understand the brief, collect site data and state the problem, assumptions and constraints.
  2. ANALYSE.
Hand calculations first, then FEA or system models where they add value.
  3. DESIGN.
Develop and compare options against requirements, cost and impact, then detail in CAD.
  4. VERIFY.
Check results against standards, specifications and safety, with review under external professional oversight.
  5. DELIVER.
Drawings, reports and procedures written clearly for the people who build, run and maintain the work.
  6. REVIEW.
Confirm the result on site, record lessons and feed them into the next job.

Planning, cost, risk and safety are managed at every step, and decisions are recorded.

Engagements: fixed-scope project, hourly or daily rate, or retainer.

How The Work Is Done

Safety, Quality And Conduct

  • Safety FirstRisk assessment (HIRA) for the work, with OHS Act (Act 85 of 1993) duties and applicable regulations kept in view.
  • Planning, Cost And RiskScope, schedule, budget and risks agreed up front and tracked through the job.
  • Design ReviewCalculations, models and drawings reviewed before release.
  • VerificationHand calculations checked against FEA, with assumptions recorded.
  • Clear CommunicationDrawings, reports and procedures written for the people who use them, with regular updates to the client.
  • Sustainability And ImpactOptions weighed for energy, water and material use, and for effects on people and the environment.
  • Responsibility And EthicsWork within the ECSA Code of Conduct and the candidate scope, under the supervision of a registered professional where required. Honest advice, sound judgement and decisions owned and recorded.
  • Learning And DevelopmentContinued development as an ECSA candidate through structured initial professional development (IPD), short courses and reading of standards.

About

Ethan R. Esbach, Candidate Engineering Technologist (Mechanical), ECSA

Ethan R. Esbach runs ERE Consulting Engineering (ERECE), a mechanical engineering consultancy in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town.

His design work is grounded in production: drawing packs, design checking, standards compliance, jigs and tools, and a working knowledge of how parts are cut, formed, welded and assembled. He does CAD and finite element analysis (FEA) in both PTC Creo and SolidWorks, and drafts in AutoCAD, to check designs before they reach the workshop. He holds a degree in mechanical engineering and is in Post Graduate Studies - Mechanical Engineering. His goal is registration as a Professional Engineer, Pr.Eng - Mechanical. ERECE provides non-statutory engineering services. Work and designs are reviewed under the oversight of an external registered professional.

Beyond engineering, Ethan is a speaker, coach, entrepreneur and author (RESILIENT) who helps people and teams build the resilience to perform under pressure.
